Coffee Legends, Inc. today announced the debut of its new Ugandan Mountain Coffee, a 100 percent organic, AAA Arabica coffee blend to be sold throughout the northeast region of the country. For every bag of Ugandan Mountain Coffee sold, Heifer International, a non-profit organization dedicated to ending hunger and poverty and caring for the Earth by helping build sustainable futures, will receive 2 percent of the price to assist their efforts in improving the livelihoods of the 5 million Ugandan coffee farmers.
"We were extremely selective about the development of Ugandan Mountain Coffee to ensure the most superior product for customers, and we are now very excited for them to sample just how smooth and enjoyable organic coffee can be," said Joe Steinberg, owner of Coffee Legends. "In addition, the partnership with Heifer International gives our company and our customers the opportunity to give back to the global community and support a sustainable, self-reliant way of life for everyone."
The Uganda Coffee Development Authority supplies the 100 percent certified-organic coffee beans that have been naturally grown since the 13th century on the small farms of the slopes of Mt. Elgon in Eastern Uganda. Harvested by hand, the beans are then exported to the U.S. to be custom roasted in small batches and distributed by Coffee Legends, roaster and importer of coffee brands including Gentle Java and Hevla Coffee.
"We are proud of the hard work and top-quality growing practices of our farmers that allow us to create the very best coffee beans here in Uganda and have made us one of the top producers of coffee in the world," said Henry Ngabirano, managing director, Uganda Coffee Development Authority. "Furthermore, we are committed to ensuring these farmers are more than fairly compensated for their industriousness and are happy to be a part of Heifer's humanitarian efforts here in Africa and worldwide."
"Heifer's partnership further allows us to promote sustainable farm practices that incorporate organic agriculture and preservation of the environment," added Bright Rwamirama, the Minister of State for Animal Industry of the Republic of Uganda.
