Indie Fest Award Reined In By 7Ponies Productions For Becoming Pony Boi
Spinal Tap gets a makeover and goes Hip Hop.
A prestigious Award of Merit from The Indie Fest for Sergio Myers' reality feature, Becoming Pony Boi. Myers' list of accomplished works includes:
. Director/ producer of the acclaimed Heavens Gate Cult - The Untold Story
. Documentary and reality TV creator
. Producer and director of MTV's Sorority Life
. Spike TV's 10 Things Every Guy Should Experience
. Crash Test
Myers received the award for an innovative comedic mockumentary that took Myers, who starred-directed and wrote, 4 years to finish.
Starring as Jackie Stein, Myers gives up his Hollywood day job to live the life of a Rap Superstar, by creating his alter ego, Pony Boi. Largely improvised, Becoming Pony Boi looks and sounds like a real documentary - Myers (Pony Boi) actually releases an album worldwide, gets tattooed, does a music video with Danny Moder starring DaBrat, and blows every cent he had ever earned.
Becoming Pony Boi stars actress and model Amy Weber in the supporting role as Jackie Stein's long-time girlfriend. Weber's character is unaware that her Jackie-bear has ditched his day job to go and be a rapper, until the money runs out and Pony Boi comes home.
"I wanted to do for hip-hop what, 'This is Spinal Tap,' did for glam rock," said Sergio Myers, star-writer-director.
In winning an Indie, Myers joins the ranks of other high-profile winners of this internationally respected award. Thomas Baker, Ph.D., who chairs the Indie Fest, had this to say about the latest winners: "The Indie is not an easy award to win. Entries are received from around the world. The Indie helps set the standard for craft and creativity."
The Indie Fest recognizes film professionals who demonstrate exceptional achievement in craft and creativity, and those who produce standout entertainment. Entries are judged by highly qualified professionals in the film industry.
From Hollywood Geek, to the Hugh Hefner of Hip Hop, the film covers the comedic journey of the most famous rap superstar no one has ever heard of.
