GovEnergy to Feature Over 100 Training Sessions on Federal Energy Management
Hundreds of Federal, Civilian, and Military Energy Professionals Will Attend the Nation's Premier Energy Training Workshop and Trade Show in Dallas This August
GovEnergy is sponsored by the Department of Energy - Federal Energy Management Program, the General Services Administration, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Agriculture, and the Environmental Protection Agency. Now in its 13th year, the GovEnergy workshop and trade show provides effective energy management training to federal employees and government stakeholders. The event will feature forward-thinking speakers from the public and private sectors; professional development and education credits; networking opportunities; sessions for energy lawyers and contracting officers; and an expanded technology-driven trade show.
"Under the President's leadership, federal agencies are aggressively working to reduce the green house emissions of their operations. Investing in energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies represents the most cost effective way for agencies to meet their aggressive requirements for green house gas reductions," said David McAndrew, GovEnergy's Chairman. Added McAndrew, "GovEnergy represents the best single opportunity for federal energy management teams to receive the training and information they need to meet these important requirements. GovEnergy is a must-attend event for the federal energy management community, it is where Feds and their industry partners go to learn about new technologies, share best practices, and make the connections they need to keep the Government leading by example in energy and water efficiency, and renewable energy use."
Keynote speakers include: Amory Lovins, Chairman and Chief Scientist of the Rocky Mountain Institute; Kris Sweckard, Managing Director of the Office of Environmental Quality for the City of Dallas; Robert H. Frank, H. J. Louis Professor of Economics at Cornell University's Johnson Graduate School of Management, is scheduled to speak at Wednesday's closing session.
The trade show will feature more than 200 exhibitors, showcasing the latest in energy and environmental products and services. In addition, GovEnergy offers on-site technical tours where attendees can observe energy technologies used within the Dallas metro region.
Under Executive Order 13514, federal agencies are given sustainability goals, requiring improvements to their environmental, energy, and economic performance. Additionally, Executive Order 132423 and EISA 2007 require that federal agencies reduce their energy consumption by 30 percent by 2015. Federal agencies must also abide by the Energy Policy Act of 2005, requiring the reduction of energy consumption per gross square foot annually by 2 percent. In order to meet these goals, the federal government will need to make significant investments in energy conservation products, services, and projects. GovEnergy serves to assist federal employees in identifying ways to meet these requirements.
