AMACO Presents Their Summer Workshop Schedule

AMACO Presents Their Summer Workshop Schedule

This summer, AMACO has put together ceramic workshops throughout the country for all of those interested in learning more about working with clay. The schedule includes workshop topics ranging from pottery glazes to decals to image transfer techniques. The dates on the schedule start in June 2010 and run through November 2010, with one date in May 2011.

To learn more about working with AMACO glazes and velvet underglazes, make sure to visit David and Tracy Gamble's Lowfire Clay Adventure in Asheville, North Carolina from July 19-23. This workshop will take place at the Odyssey Center of Ceramic Arts. If you are really into working with different types of glazes, you can also try out the low fire glazes from this workshop. They are using Majolica.

For those more interested in image transfer techniques, there will be more than enough workshops out there for you with Paul Andrew Wandless. With workshops in Oklahoma, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio and Portland, you are sure to find one that is in your neighborhood. Image transfer is exactly what it sounds like: the transfer of an image from one medium to another. This time an image is created on a plaster slab and transferred to clay using the monoprint process, which is a printmaking technique. This method of creating an image requires working from foreground to background when making your images, because the image is reversed during the transfer (printing) process. No matter what type of clay techniques you enjoy, you are sure to find it on AMACO's workshop schedule. The schedule boasts so many cities with a great variety of dates, making your choice of classes even that much better.

For even more special events, keep your eyes open for the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts Conference taking place in Tampa/St. Petersburg, FL from March 30-April 2, 2011. The National Art Education Association will also be holding a conference in Seattle, WA from March 17-20, 2011.
