The 2011 Pathology Visions Conference of Cedars-Sinai Medical will take place at the CenterManchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego from Oct. 30 to Nov. 2.

Mahul B. Amin, MD, chair of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, will be the keynote speaker to offer his perspectives and expertise on personalized medicine and digital pathology.

Amin’s will discuss the link between the individualized needs of patients and the ever-evolving field of digital pathology. He will also define the pathologist’s role in healthcare, as well as the strengths and limitations of traditional microscopy.

Amin is one of the nation’s recognized authorities in genitourinary pathology, and has extensive expertise in oncologic pathology of the genitourinary tract.

He has written more than 240 articles in peer-reviewed journals and more than 30 book chapters. Amin has given more than 230 urologic pathology grand rounds, lectures and workshops in 19 countries.

The professor has been a faculty lecturer for courses at the American Urology Association, the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathologists and the College of American Pathologists.

He is a founding member of the American Joint Commission on Cancer (AJCC), member of the Genitourinary Cancer Staging Task Force, 7th Edition of AJCC staging, and lead coordinator of the prostate cancer staging system.

Amin is the pathology chairman of numerous protocols for the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group and has been editor-in-chief of Advances in Anatomic Pathology since 2000.
