US and Indonesia Strengthen Academic Ties

Assistant Secretary Ann Stock joined U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and the Indonesia Minister of National Education Mohammad Nuh in opening the U.S.-Indonesia Higher Education Summit on Oct. 31.

It will continue the work of the U.S.-Indonesia Comprehensive Partnership, which focuses on strengthening academic ties between the two countries. The partnership has expanded exchange, research, and training opportunities for Indonesian and American students and faculty.

Discussions will highlight a range of issues, including innovation and research collaboration, teacher preparation, and the role of community colleges. More than 100 higher education leaders from both nations will attend.

The summit will be held at the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, D.C. Members of the press who are interested in attending should RSVP to press@ed.gov by 8 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 31.
