Dr. Richard Marshall earned tenure at the University of South Florida Polytechnic. An associate professor in the College of Human & Social Sciences, Division of Education, he teaches courses in educational psychology, counseling psychology, and reading assessment.

He is also an adjunct associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine, USF College of Medicine.
“When a faculty member achieves tenure, it is a significant hallmark in his career,” says Dr. Judith Ponticell, senior associate vice president. “It represents a collective contribution over at least six years as a teacher, scholar and recognized contributor to the development of an academic field and to the professional and public communities the faculty member serves. Dr. Marshall’s colleagues, his students and the community partners he has served are proud of his achievement.”
Marshall is a licensed school psychologist with specialty training in pediatric neuropsychology, a clinical therapist, and a developmental specialist. Marshall, who lives in Lakeland, joined USF Polytechnic in 2003. He earned an Ed.D. from West Virginia University and a Ph.D. from the University of Georgia.
Publications and Presentations
His publications and presentations are aimed at helping parents and teachers gain a better understanding of the neurobiology of emotional, behavioral, and learning problems in children.
Dr. Marshall’s research focus includes the assessment and treatment of child and adolescent psychopathology, the neurobiology of learning and behavior problems, and the biological bases of neurodevelopmental disorders.
His recently developed rating scale (the Pediatric Behavior Rating Scale) will be published in the summer and he has just completed a grant proposal to study the genetic correlates of bipolar disorder.
