Patients with Overactive Bladders Asked to Participate in Virtual Clinical Trial

-

If you, or someone you know suffers from overactive bladder (otherwise known as OAB or “urge incontinence”), you might qualify for a research study of an approved medication where you can participate from the privacy and comfort of your own home.

Subjects who qualify and participate will receive $ 25 each time they complete an online assessment or complete a lab visit and submit their results to the study center. Each subject can be paid up to $ 175 and will be required to use a small handheld diary device and the internet to complete their “virtual visits.”

Overactive bladder, sometimes known as “urge incontinence” is reported to affect 1 in 6 adults in the US and the prevalence increases with age. Common symptoms include the need to urinate frequently, sudden strong urges to urinate, wetting accidents (not being able to get to the bathroom on time), etc. Many women have OAB but are not being treated.

This 16-week study is for women who are 21 or older, with internet access, suffer from overactive bladder with urge urinary incontinence (wetting accidents), are not taking medication to treat OAB symptoms and are not planning to become pregnant during the study. After watching a short video that explains the study and then completing an online questionnaire about 600 women in 10 states will choose to participate.

After additional assessments are done to confirm eligibility either study medication or placebo (dummy pills), will be mailed to them. Study subjects will not know if they are taking the real medication or placebo, as in a traditional research study.

All the participants will submit information online and via a handheld diary device (provided to study subjects for use during study participation). Participants will use the diary device to record how often they urinate and details of their OAB symptoms including wetting accidents.
